PostHeaderIcon How Is Your Squeeze Page Holding Up To The Test So Far?

While going through this training, or any other training that you may find out there online, it’s important to note that a lot of loose terms being thrown around. For example, your “squeeze page” can be the first destination that people will see as your “landing page”, but that’s not always true the other way around. Not all “landing pages” contain an optin.

This brings us to our next point. Not all website pages that contain an “optin form” on them are a “squeeze Page”. A good example of this can be seen in the image shown below, which is shown only AFTER you purchase Blogging To The Bank 3.0 and confirmed your order.

blogging2thebank

I chose this image to use as an example for 2 reasons;

One, this page can ONLY be seen after you’ve made a purchase, which is very different than the traditional “landing page” style of squeeze page that most people are used to. On one hand, it is guaranteed that the buyer will sign up, though you also run the risk that they’ll either opt out quickly or request a refund.

Two, you’ll notice the “optin box” at the top of the squeeze page, which people can use to sign up for their “free offer” and this will help them to build their email list, but in itself DOES NOT make this a 2nd “squeeze page” offer by any means. Simply put, it’s just an optin box.

hurry-upThe image above uses what I like to call a “reverse squeeze page”, though others might crudely call this a “forced option” form. To be fair about things though, you should register your purchases so that you can get updates when they come out, so for those who cry about opting in to something you’ve just PAID FOR…get over it!

Actually, by law you’ll find that if the owner of the product wants to they DO NOT HAVE TO ASK your permission to add you to their list once you’ve purchased, as you have already shown an express interest to receive more information by making a payment for their services. Feel free to review the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 for more information if you have any questions. Companies like OneShoppingCart and many others are already implimenting “single optin” after payment.  Click the image below to make sure that your squeeze page is in compliance with the FTC laws.

Yes It’s True – Look Mom, No Squeeze Page!

I would also like to point out here that while it is legal to do things this way, most people will tell you that it’s NOT moral. Just as an example, if you were to take an email list that was obtained this way without a squeeze page and without a “double optin system” to a reputable company, such as Aweber, they would CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT for trying to import this list!

Trust me on this one, I’ve seen them do this first hand to a guy that I knew in the mortgage industry who had joined set up a bunch of “groups”, all of which required confirmation to “join”, but NONE of which had an actual squeeze page & double optin system in place. Needless to say he wasn’t happy and he now uses a squeeze page to build his email list correctly.

When In Doubt, Use A Squeeze Page It’s The Right Thing To Do

For now we’re going to bring this lesson to a close, but don’t worry, there’s plenty more coming in our Squeeze Page VooDoo course. This is only the beginning. In our next lesson we’re going to discuss action words, some of you may be surprised at what’s HOT and what’s not.

PostHeaderIcon What Your Squeeze Page Says About You

headline-newsWhat you say and how you say it on your squeeze page has a lot to do with how well people will respond to the various products, services and additional info that you’re promoting online or off.

One thing I often ask myself when I’m doing things… “Is this newsworthy?”

At the same time you don’t want to over do things.  I’m sure we’ve all read someone else’s squeeze page, landing page or mini-site sales page and just quietly thought to ourselves;

Oh Please!  Enough Is Enough Stop The Hype Already Will Ya!

And in all fairness, hasn’t the word seen enough of the preverbial snake oil salesmen?  Even if it’s not being done intentionally, you should always strive to be better than the next guy.  What makes your squeeze page stand out above the crowd starts with the words you use and how you present them.

You need to trigger a subconcious emotional response.

When viewing your squeeze page people need to feel motivated, uplifted and compelled that whatever it is that you have to offer is going to solve some issue or problem that they’ve been having.

You could have the cure to world hunger, but if no one reads what you have to offer then you’re message goes nowhere!

Another thing to consider on your squeeze page  is your viewer’s time.  Keep things short, sweet and to the point.  For years I’ve told people that the average person surfing the internet browses things like a 10 year old kid with an advanced case of ADHD and a stomach full of caffeine or sugar.  This isn’t meant to single anyone out.  We’re all guilty of this.  Heck, I’m probably one of the worst ones out there when it comes to my attention span!

You Must Master The Art Of Selling Without Selling

I’m not sure where I read that, but truer words were never spoken.  What you’re working on here is a “squeeze page”, not the mission statement for the World Peace Convention, so lighten things up a bit.  If anything, this is meant to be a pre-sales page that will soften the blow.  Everyone knows what comes after the squeeze page, but they hold on with the thought that the “sneak preview” that you’re going to give them will provide them with some insight about the quality of the products, services or info that will be offered after they sign up.  Keep that in mind.

innovationJust a quick side note here, remember to spellcheck everything!  It doesn’t matter if you’re doing a pre-release, setting up your affiliate offers, working on a huge website, creating a mini-site, posting to a social network, writing an article, working on a blog post or sending out an email.

One of the fastest ways to lose your squeeze page viewers is by showing them that you can’t spell and don’t care enough to check before you post things on the internet live for other people to view.

Also, try to remember that the words you use on your squeeze page are also very important. Using certain words too much can hurt you more than you may know, so proof read EVERYTHING before clicking to post your squeeze page live.  I will go in to greater detail on this in the future, but there is one special technique that I’ll share with you before I go.

Try To Position Your Offer Around The Concept Of Free

Everyone expects something for nothing when they sign up for your squeeze page, so this can get a bit tricky.  You don’t want to sound cliche’ and just say something like “Sign Up Below To Get My Free Ebook”, as this has been used, abused, repurposed and then used some more!

Consider instead, what would motivate YOU at this juncture.  Even if you’re still offering the SAME THING you could word things a bit differently and set up your squeeze page to say something like this;

Use Our Free Easy 5 Step Program To Increase Your Traffic

You’ll notice the use of the color red, as mentioned in our “color psychology” article.  This will draw attention to certain keywords.  Another thing we’re doing is using ACTION words that tell them to “discover” and “use” this FREE system and instructs them to fill out the form on the squeeze page below.

In our next lesson we’ll go over power words that will help you to motivate people, grab their attention and subconsciously make them want to take action after visiting your squeeze page and reading what YOU have to say.

PostHeaderIcon Quick & Easy Squeeze Page Psychology That Increases Conversions

Before setting up your squeeze page you need to take a moment to think about things from your website visitor’s point of view and really try to get inside of their head.  There are a lot of quick and easy, yet subtle, changes you can make that will increase the chances that your viewer will opt in.

In the early days we could create a squeeze page, offer a free ebook and add in some smooth talking catch phrase.  This was pretty much all we needed, but people are getting smarter.

That’s right, the consumer has gotten wise to the fact that we want to market to him, so we need to be more cunning and use tested and proven strategies to overcome this.

People Are Getting Smarter

One of the most common things we hear experts say about how they increase their squeeze page conversions is also one of the simplest (and yet under-used) things.  In fact, if you think about how the psychology of this all plays together it’s a no brainer.

What am I talking about?  Color psychology.  If you’re not doing split tests to see what converts best on your squeeze page then you’re cheating yourself and if you have something of high quality that your viewers could truly use and get a sincere benefit from, then you’re cheating them too.

Besides, why would you want to spend time setting up a squeeze page that’s just “ok” when you know that with just a little bit more effort you can increase optins by 10% or more?

One Of The First Things To Consider Is Color Psychology

Color Psychology Can Have A Huge Impact On Your Business

Blue is a soothing color. Black is a color of authority and power. White is a color of purity and innocence. It’s also a lot easier on the eyes, which is why the body of most websites is white, no matter what color the outer background is.

You’ll notice that these are probably the 3 most commonly used squeeze page background colors and now you know why.

Gray on the other hand is more practical, as it’s a neutral and will not make the viewer feel pushed too hard.  However, try not to go overboard with this as you want your website visitor to do one important thing….TAKE ACTION, not overlook the main offer in the soft boring overly relaxing environment you’ve created.

Stop for a moment to think.  If you were visiting a squeeze page and you saw all this soft gray everywhere would you really feel that the offer was JUMPING OUT at you in a compelling  way that made you feel like you just have to have this right now?

The odds are that in most cases, unless the offer is drop dead amazing, you will not feel motivated to take action.

This brings us to the color red, which is guaranteed to draw in your viewers attention.  Often this is where the eyes are going to feel pulled to first, which is why most of the best copywriters will use the color read in their important headlines or to break up larger chunks of black text in their sales copy.

However, on your squeeze page, it is often better to use a slightly darker color of read for text only to GRAB your readers attention.  In most cases using this as a background color or using a red that’s too bright can be hard on the eyes and cause your visitors to lose interest and go somewhere else.  This is not what we want.

Here are just a few more that I’ll go over quickly, as they’re not as common, but it is important to know the effects that they can have on your squeeze page if you’re using these colors.

  • Green is a color of growth, nature and money.  It is also a very calming color if used the right way.
  • Yellow is a cheerful color.  This is the color we associate with the sun and therefor it is also very energetic by nature.
  • Orange is also a very energetic color, one that some might feel is a bit flamboyant and loud, but not too over-powering.
  • Purple is a color of nobility, traditionally used with kings and queens in the middle ages, hence it carries a touch of class with authority.

I could go on and on about the importance of color psychology when setting up your squeeze page, but I know that most of my readers are like me.  I’m always on the go and busy, so I don’t have time to be burdened with too much reading.

That’s why I’ve decided to break things down in to what I’ll call mini squeeze page lessons.  If you have a bit of time I strongly recommend that you go to Google, or your favorite search engine, and do some research on this topic.

In the meantime, I’m going to bring this to a close for now, but not to worry.  I’ll be back with more articles soon that will help you to continue increasing your optin conversions.
