Battle-Tested Tactics To Organize Your Internet Marketing Business
Internet marketing seems like the easiest and most free business model out there. And you’ll see a lot of methods advertised as “making money in your spare time.” The harsh truth of the matter is internet marketing is a business model, like any other, and like any other you’ll need to work at it and put time into it before it becomes profitable. So if you do IM, the smartest and first thing to do is plan and organize your business infrastructure.
Getting organized will help you make more money, and it will streamline your business so that you spend more time profiting and less time searching for things. And that’s what we’ll talk more about in the rest of this article. Early on, get yourself setup with a good filing system.
Yes, a filing cabinet is better than nothing, but an organized system for filing is totally different. You don’t simply want to have your drawers full of loose paper that you have to sort through every time you want to find something! Basic files to create: Each client has a file. A file for that month’s “paid out” receipts and invoices.
A “paid in” invoices and receipts file. Files for each month of the calendar year where you track the money that came in, the money you paid out and the profit that you’re making. A file for the ended tax year plus your returns for that year. Also create any files you feel are important to your business. You need a desk, and there is no way around this.
You won’t necessarily fail if you only have a laptop plus your brain, but there are so many benefits to having your own dedicated work desk. It’s simple – you can keep all your business items and necessities at your desk. Also, and this really is important – sitting at your desk and working on your IM business will help make you feel more like it’s a real business. If you don’t have a lot of funds, your desk can be second hand – not important, just as long as it gets the job done. (You can upgrade later!) Start making a ‘to do’ list each business day.
It’s not needed to schedule every minute of the day, but it is very helpful to have a list of tasks you want to get done each day. This way you can simply go down the list. “To do” lists are also handy for those times when you find yourself with some unexpected free time. Have two “To Do” lists to work from. You could make one list for daily duties such as answering emails, taking care of invoices, tracking finances, etc. Then the other list is for long term work such as projects you’re working on, long term marketing campaigns, and things like that. Now, what you’ll do is use the long term list to keep yourself productive and busy when you’re done with the normal, daily items.
You can find many approaches for organizing your internet marketing. As time passes and you become more experienced, you’ll know what is best for you and your particular business. It will probably take trial and error, but you will discover on your own. You’ll make mistakes, but don’t worry about that. The important take-away is to know that if you fail to organize, you won’t be as profitable as you could be.
